Staying at Lily's Cottage

Being self-catering addicts who have stayed in many cottages over the years, when we decided to offer Lily’s Cottage for short term rentals we wanted to create a homely and happy environment, just as we had enjoyed during our travels.

We live locally and are on-hand with lots of tips on how to get the best out of your stay in Weardale, as despite being an area of outstanding natural beauty, it’s largely undiscovered.

Expect a warm North East welcome and a friendly village atmosphere in St John’s Chapel. Head over to The Blue Bell when you arrive. Your first drink is on us!

We look forward to welcoming you to Lily’s Cottage and this beautiful region!

About The Area

Located in the North Pennines AONB, Lily’s Cottage is plumb in the middle of fantastic walking and cycling country. A unique landscape with centuries of industrial history softened over the passage of time and waiting for you to discover.

Visitors marvel at the unspoilt views during the day and clear starry night skies. This is a land of rugged moorlands, waterfalls with a diversity of flora and fauna.  Fresh air is in abundance and pollution, traffic and noisy crowds are strictly off bounds!

Our village, St John’s Chapel, is surrounded by fells and dales: home to lapwings, curlews and snipe in summer, and the rare Black Grouse during the springtime.

To appreciate the region’s fascinating history take a day trip to Hadrian’s Wall, The Borders, or one of the many medieval towns and villages of the North Pennines.
